Brief history of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic
The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, often known as MAPOLY, was established in January 1979 and is located in Ojere, a neighborhood in the southern portion of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
Brigadier Harris Eghagha’s original, creative proposal to start the polytechnic was what Chief Olabisi Onabanjo used to see through the construction of the great fortress of learning.
The “Ogun State Polytechnic Act No. 8 of 1980,” which included the foundation, amalgamation, constitution, and significance of the school, was authorized by the defunct House of Assembly.
After that, 220 students, 29 academic staff members, and 5 senior administrative officers started classes at the institution’s temporary locations in Onikolobo and Oke-Egunya, both in Abeokuta.
The institution bears the name of its most generous donor, who passed away. The earlier amalgamated polytechnic law was repealed in May 1999 under the direction of Chief MKO Abiola and a new law known as the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Edict.
Despite the institution starting off with only a few programs, it has grown substantially! It currently offers 40 programs throughout 26 courses and 5 faculties, ranking highly in the provision of part-time and diploma programs both domestically and abroad among Nigerian educational institutions. Dr. Adeoye David Odedeji, who was born on January 14, 1963 in Igan-Alade, Ketu Constituency, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, is the institution’s rector as of the time this post is being written.
