Confluence Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Lokoja, Kogi State with a 25,000 seating capacity. It is the home ground of Kogi United and Confluence Queens in the Nigeria National League and Nigeria Women Premier League respectively. It also served as the venue for the home games of Niger Tornadoes in 2016.
The state of Kogi recently held football matches with Ex-Super Eagles stars which include the likes of Austin JJ Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Julius Aghahowa, Taribo West, Tijani Babangida, Peter Rufai, Mutiu Adepoju and other renowned ex-international stars who once gave our country honour in the international arena.
The governor, who captained the GYB men team beat former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu from the penalty spot when the commissioner of information, Kingsley Fanwo, was fouled in the 18-yard box .
Julius Aghahowa scored an equaliser in the second half to make the result 1-1 at full time.
In his remarks after the highly entertaining match, Governor Bello said such sporting activity was significant being that it would serve as a reminder to Nigerians how united the country was as a nation during the glory days of the soccer legends.
