A REJOINDER ON THE INTENDED TERMINATION OF STUDENTSHIP FOR INABILITY TO MAKE PAYMENT BEFORE MATRICULATION.
Our Association consider it sacrosanct, germane and imperative to address the press today, to objectively express and confidently make our position know in respect to the termination of studentship of our members in Federal University Oye-Ekiti.
It’s of keen cognizance to intentions that we write in response to the memo released by the school management via the office of the registrar on the online matriculation ceremony and the termination of studentship of fresh students who are unable to pay their sundry fee before the stipulated time.
Many students have been crying out loud in fear of loss of their studentship if they can’t make payment before the stipulated deadline. It is obviously a necessity to make payment to own studentship but these times are hard(very hard). Due to the outburst of the pandemic, the economy of the country has gone down the drain thus dealing most Nigerians a great blow. Many parents are not working for now and simply, to take care of even the mere immediate needs is almost impossible.
This is unacceptable and goes against normal standard of fundamental human rights, morality intellectual freedom and economic considerations. It so unexpected of the management of the institution not to hold the globally accepted standards of fundamental rights.
However, we laud the idea of a virtual matriculation considering the situation in the country. It’s a commendable effort by the school management. We are hereby hoping to have a constructive meeting with the management as regards other approaches.
Meanwhile, we want to assure the Nigerian Students that our leadership will not fold arms on this particular issue until we find a considerable solution in relation to the responsibilities saddle with the Association to defend the interest of her members.
- Immediate reversal of the internal memo; suggestion to be trailed by another Notification.
- No Studentship should be terminated because of the payment, in as much as the Student will still pay the dues as expected of them considering the situation of the country.
We hope for a due consideration to our demands.
